Carl’s is the crown jewel of Fredericksburg as far as ice cream goes. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it gets national attention and still remains the local feel. The classic neon light sign will be sure to draw you in on a hot summer night!
2. Paul’s Bakery
This old fashioned donut shop is a staple for early morning commuters to stop in for a cup of coffee and delicious treats. Paul’s Bakery features everything from cupcakes, birthday cakes, cookies, pastries, and pies. Paul’s has been family owned and operated since 1973 making it the longest family owned and operated bakery in Fredericksburg!
3. The Happy Clam
While people come to the happy clam for their great southern fried seafood, they stay for the delicious homemade pies. Pat Moncure has been has been baking up some of the most sought after pies in the area since the restaurant opened in the seventies. Her most popular include, strawberry, coconut creme, chocolate peanut butter, and lemon meringue. Make sure to save room for a slice after your meal or take a whole pie home with you!
4. Colonial Cupcakes
Colonial Cupcake is the cupcake authority in downtown Fredericksburg. You can build your own cupcake or choose from the the delicious options they already have. They also offer great muffins, coffee, and ice cream. Be sure to stop in and take advantage of their outdoor seating while enjoying their great sweets.
5. Basilico Italian Market & Deli
Basilico offers authentic Italian cuisine, and it doesn’t stop with their food. Everything from cannolis to tiramisu and not to mention their extraordinary homemade gelato is as close to Italian cuisine as you can get in Fredericksburg.
6. Eileen’s Bakery & Cafe
Eileen’s bakery is a great dessert place located in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg. Trista Couser brings her wealth of culinary knowledge to executing beautiful made from scratch cakes that are sure to please your sweet tooth.
7. Mason-Dixon Cafe & Bakery
Mason-Dixon bakes up some of the best muffins and pies in Fredericksburg. However their bread pudding with caramel rum sauce is a must get item anytime you visit them, they offer tons of fruit themed cakes as well. Be sure to visit their new space when it opens up sometime in June, 2100 Princess Anne Street, right next to Carl’s Ice Cream
